Shawn Lezama Curepe, Trinidad and Tobago — A 47-year-old man was fatally shot outside his home in the early hours of Wednesday morning in what police are treating as a homicide investigation.
The victim has been identified as Shawn Lezama, who was found wounded near his residence on Mc Donald Street, Curepe, shortly after 5:30 a.m. on February 11, 2026.
According to reports, Lezama’s common-law wife was inside their home when she heard a series of loud explosions. Alarmed by the sounds, she went outside moments later and discovered him lying on the ground with gunshot injuries.
An alarm was raised immediately, and with the assistance of a neighbour, Lezama was rushed to the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex in Mt Hope for emergency medical treatment. Despite efforts to save his life, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers responded to the scene and have since launched a full investigation into the fatal shooting. Detectives are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, including a possible motive and whether Lezama was targeted.
No arrests have been reported at this time.
Authorities are urging anyone with information that may assist in the investigation to contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
The community has been left shaken by the early-morning violence as investigators continue their inquiries.
